Most vessels run their cooling pumps at fixed speed — regardless of actual engine load, sea temperature or system demand. PES changes that. It continuously adapts pump speed to real operating conditions, shutting off unnecessary consumers and cascading pumps automatically.
The result: dramatically lower energy use without any compromise on cooling performance or safety. The system works standalone with AMS interface via Modbus RTU, covers both the SW and FW circuits, and can be integrated into existing BESI RCV installations.
Suitable for new builds and retrofit alike — every system is fully tested at Behrens Pumpen’s test facility in Bremen before delivery.

A research partnership with the Institute of Automation (IAT) at the University of Bremen and funding from the European Union are not handed out lightly. PES earned both on the strength of the energy savings it makes possible.


Calculated for a sample vessel: MPC with MCR = 4,800 kW, three 550 kW auxiliary engines, SW pumps 3 × 50% at 23 kW each @ 50 Hz.
Cooler outlet temperature control with frequency-controlled pumps and automatic shut-off reduces average pump power from 46 kW (two pumps at 50%) to 8.3 kW.
121 t CO₂ equals the annual heating emissions of up to 60 German households.
Hydraulic check and flow adjustment alone reduce average pump power from 75 kW to 37 kW — without major hardware changes or dry dock time.
